Is it okay to get office style carpet for you home?
I want to get the thinner office style carpet for my home. It's only 45 cents a square foot at home depot.
Is it okay to get it for the home rather than the plusher residential carpet? It's a lot cheaper. I also don't want padding, and want it glue to the floor.
Since there is less material, the carpet will be easier to maintain and less likely to snag and damage.
There is nothing wrong with using office carpet at home. The main difference is the plushness, so if you don't mind it is fine.
But you really don't want to glue it right to the floor. If you have hardwood under the carpet, you would be insane to glue carpet over it but even with concrete floors it is a bad idea. First off, it will be a nightmare if you ever want to replace it. An absolute nightmare. Second, it very well might effect the resale value of your house. I wouldn't want to buy a place where the carpet is glued to the sub floor (and people might notice plus a home inspector would almost definitely notice). Plus, if you install it without padding, you void the warranty. Finally, it will be really hard.
