CHINESE BISQUE DOLLS
Bisque dolls with glossy finishing, made from Chinese bisque are also known as china dolls. Chinese bisque dolls were very popular in the mid eighteen hundreds and were made in several countries.
Before making dolls with baby like features and with skin like finishing, dolls were made from Chinese bisque, which was glossy and shiny like china ware. The dolls looked like adult women and sometimes children. These dolls come in all sizes, starting at a couple inches up to over a foot long.
Chinese bisque dolls make beautiful collectibles given that they have plenty details and the coloring of the china is quite hard to do. Many of the dolls are hand painted.
The heads are usually made from Chinese bisque and the limbs are unfinished material, the torso could be made out of leather or fabric.
It is hard to tell when they were made and where they came from, even if you are an expert, because most of these dolls were not signed/marked by their manufacturer.
