Collect and Play: Have Fun With a Toy Hobby
Some adults never seem growing up. They appear to retain their childlike wonder at everything around them. They are the adults who've started a toy hobby. Kids love to hang around with these adults because they appear more like kids. Sometimes having a child or a grandchild can spark an interest in toys. Be that as it might, a toy hobby will keep people young at heart.
Many women love dolls and never outgrow them. Some prefer baby dolls, some fashion dolls, and still others go for antique or decorative dolls. Often an interest in dolls will spill over right into a craft interest, since the doll lover begins to craft clothes and accessories for favorite dolls. Sometimes the hobbyist becomes skilled at crafting the dolls themselves. Some types of dolls that tend to be hand-crafted are rag dolls and cloth bodied dolls with ceramic heads. It isn't uncommon to find older women who have an entire room of their homes full of special dolls on display.
Older men, on the other hand, (and sometimes women, too) often like cars and trucks. Antique metal cars are hot collectibles, with some older ones being quite valuable. Matchbox cars have always been loved, but so have the massive Tonka dumptruck, road grader, and bulldozer. You are able to bet the grandkids should play along with your trucks and cars.
A toy hobby thcat is extremely well-liked is collecting Beanie Babies. These small velour animals, made by the Ty company, each possess a personality all its own. You can find Beanie Babies in every type of animal you'll be able to think of. A similar hobby is collecting teddy bears. There are many Beanie Baby teddy bears, but a teddy bear collector will probably prefer to branch out to gather other forms of bears. In fact, many bear collectors have figurines and other items collected as well as their teddy bears.
Wooden toys are well-liked among adults, both to craft and to collect. There's something quaint and pleasant about a child playing with a handcrafted wooden toy. Wooden toys make attractive home accents wherever they get dropped, which is not something you possibly can say about the latest plastic gizmo. Individuals who like country decorating often prefer wooden toys for their kids.
You don't have to outgrow toys! A toy hobby will keep you young at heart and cause you to a favorite among the youngsters inside your neighborhood. Whether you collect toys or craft them, a toy hobby is something you'll be able to play around with!

Do you remember Betsy Clark?
I'm talking about the little doll which was popular in the 70's and 80's. You could buy all sorts of accessories with her on them and dolls. What I am looking for are other labels like Betsy Clark and Hollie Hobbie that were popular back then, can anyone remember any other favourites like these from thier childhoods?
Yes, that sounds so familiar, but not as a small 6-8 inch doll, but as a 14" doll. I remember the face was so similar to Precious Moments, I wondered if the artist was the same.
But I guess since other dolls (Hollie Hobby for instance) had smaller and larger versions marketed.
I still have a 7" Hollie Hobby.
Strawberry Shortcake dolls are about the same scale (but bodies smaller, with the oversized head).
In the 70's some of the dolls I played with were:
Heidi and Jan (and I think there was a 3rd in the series). They had this button on the tummy, that when pushed, the hand went up. I think the advertisements did a Hi Heidi sort of thing.
Tutti (Barbie and Skipper's youngest sister at the time). Later this was marketed as Stacie, then she kind of just disappeared and Kelly (much smaller) was further marketed.
I had a Penny Brite, but didn't like her that much, I liked the younger (not baby, but little girl looking) dolls.
PeeWees were popular, shorter and fatter, like Trolls in size, but human in face and body features.
Little Kittles were smaller I think. Maybe closer to 4 inches (maybe even smaller).
I had the one that came with the Sled, and the winter clothing.
