Planning Your Outfit for a Wedding
<p>Picture the scene, you have been invited to a close friend’s wedding and after your initial thrill at the thought of having the opportunity to attend the most precious day of their life with them, you have one thought…… What on earth am I going to wear?
<p>They say that choosing an outfit to attend a wedding in is one of the purchases that you will spend the most time planning, even if you are just a guest at the event. Most of the time it boils down to two issues:
<p>Day and night theme – With me, this is what makes choosing a wedding outfit the hardest. Many times the event will span from day into evening. We want something really smart to wear to attend the church, along with something special to be able to have a dance in during the evening celebrations. As you can imagine, getting the two from one outfit can be very difficult.
<p>The price – It is very important that the price is right when you choose your wedding outfit. People are put off by spending a small fortune on an outfit that will generally just get worn once. Therefore, I recommend either a versatile dress that can function for other events, or an ensemble that is made up of multiple pieces that can be broken up and used to create other casual or fancy “mix and match” outfits. Take the outfit in this picture, it can be worn as the tank, jacket and skirt shown, or it can be mixed with other pieces from your closet for multiple other outfits. The tank can be a great base for a different bottom and jacket. The skirt can be paired with boots and a slouchy sweater to create a completely different look. The jacket and tank can be added to a pair of elegant pants or denim jeans for two other completely different outfits. This makes the 3-piece set a sound investment.
<p>Remember, unlike regular day-to-day events, your pictures will appear in albums for years to come. You want to make sure that you are remembered for the right reasons, not because you were wearing a badly fitted outfit.
<p>The best way to plan your wedding outfit is to go with styles that suit your shape and can adapt to suit the event. A light-colored suit is a lovely versatile choice that will fit in with the lights of the camera both during the day and at night. I suggest avoiding black (unless it is a black-tie event), as it doesn’t look good on camera and as a wedding is a celebration, it can be a somber color.
<p>Shawls are a great addition to wedding ensembles, as well. They can be used with a suit worn at the church during the day, replacing a jacket and dressing up the outfit for the evening. Plus, what I love most about shawls is that if you are not confident with your arms, it will cover them up nicely.
<p>For a final thought, your wedding outfit should fit in with whatever you will be doing on the day. So if you have a lot of walking to do in between the church and the reception go for lower heels. Just like if it is expected to be cold, go for a warm fitted jacket.
