Tavern Wench Costume

What is a Tavern Wench
The term wench was typically used to describe a young girl or woman that served drinks to customers in taverns, pubs, or inns. What Was the Typical Tavern Wench Costume
For the most part, tavern wenches dressed in clothing that enhanced their natural assets. A plain white peasant style top was typically pressed tightly in strategic places by a figure shaping vest or lace up corset. More often than not she would wear a full, ankle length skirt because it would make it much more comfortable to work long shifts in.
Most tavern girls would also wear a fluffy petticoat to add some bulk to their look and to allow them the freedom to move around without too much skin being shown. A mop style cap or bandanna was also worn to keep her hair out of her eyes while she worked her magic.
Although a tavern wench may sometimes be perceived as being dumb, or uneducated, she is often more intelligent than anyone else that might frequent her inn. She knew that drunken men who gladly hand over much more coin to a girl that was flirty, playful, and flighty. Smart girls would not make nearly as much money.
Tavern girl costumes are still extremely popular today. They can be found at numerous summer and fall celebrations including Halloween and Oktoberfest. There are a few variations such as a beer girl, pirate wench, Bavarian babe, or even a sexy German girl costume that will ensure that you stand out at your party this year.
